How easy is it to do so and finally how easy would it be to remove all traces of the old environment after installing the new one? However, I have not installed or removed desktop environments before. My last concerns are that I would like to remove Gnome entirely after I have installed and set up my new environment. ![]() How would changing desktop environments affect the above, if it would affect them at all? I use Nautilus-dropbox in Gnome to integrate it with my environment. I am using TopIcons+ to give me topbar notifications for Dropbox etc. I am currently using seahorse as the front end managing PGP/SSH keys. Things that I am considering that the move from Gnome might affect on, but which I am not sure will be affected are: Does not bog the system down with bloat or unneeded graphical effects Is a modern desktop environment, looks beautiful and is easy to use but,ĭ. Is good at managing the resources that it does useĬ. Please remember, though that I am looking for something that:ī. Those are my questions about the two desktop environments that I have looked at, but do you know of a better one? If so, then please feel free to recommend it. In which environment is it most comfortable to install what you need or want?īy question four and five, I mean between the two environments, Xfce or KDE, which one comes with the best core package that but not filled with useless bloat, and which environment makes the easiest to install only the parts of it you want? Between Xfce and KDE, which one is more modular?ĥ. ![]() Which is the more modern environment, Xfce or KDE?Ĥ. How do Xfce and KDE compare to each other in terms of resource usage?ģ. Have any of you used Xfce on Debian (specifically Debian 10)?Ģ. I have been looking at Xfce and KDE, and I think I like what I have been reading and hearing about Xfce 4.14.ġ. Something good at managing system resources, but which does not use a lot of them, or bog down the system with unneeded graphic effects. I am looking for a very lightweight but modern desktop environment for Debian 10 to replace Gnome 3.
